![]() Sarajevo is surrounded by mountains. The city centre, including the old town, is located along Miljacka River and from there the city climbs up the mountain sides. During the war, Serb artillery and snipers were positioned all along the hills and had a perfect view of the city and its inhabitants. Their snipers literally picked and chose who is going to live and who is going to die. The unusual geographic location resulted in a pattern of streets and alleys that do not follow any particular system, but meander around natural barriers. At first, the task of navigating the streets seemed rather daunting, but it is actually easy and natural to follow. | |
