The best thing about South End is the ease with which the people will tell you about themselves. The girl in this photograph is Sheanna. She was playing ball on the St. James Street with her friend while her dad Mel watched her every move. The fact that Sheanna plays baseball, laughs and lives is an immensely rewarding for Mel who watched her battle with leukemia for three years. We talked for quite some time and watched kids screech and run around. As I was making my way home, this woman I’ve never seen before, called me and asked if I were a photographer and if she could hire me. Well, yes and it depends, I said. It turned out that she was a hair stylist and a beautician entering a competition and she needed a photo of her creation. Her friend agreed to be a model. I explained that I don’t have a studio and suggested that she check my web site to see the kind of work I do. She e-mailed me that same evening and insisted that I do the shots. So tonight I actually did kind of photography I’ve never done before. I’ll post the results tomorrow. And all of that because I went for a walk... | |
