Kingston Peninsula, Borges and the Gospel According to Mark, Jackson and the Lottery, Sooey's take on right winngers...

When all else fails, there is always a corner store photo :-) This one is on Kingston Peninsula past the well-known farmers’ market.

I would like to very, very strongly recommend Jorge Luis Borges’ story The Gospel According to Mark (full text). This is one of the most terrifying stories I read in a very long time. It reminded me of a classic American short story by Shirley Jackson The Lottery (full text). It’s not that both of these stories are well written (they are), but they are truly pieces of art. They cannot be described, only experienced. Yet, do be careful, because chances are you will never forget either of them.

To end on a somewhat lighter note, I wholeheartedly recommend Sooey’s amusing post on the strange and warped sense of reality among those on the political and religious right.
