![]() This is Ingalls Head on Grand Manan. It’s early in the morning and the fisherman walking down the gangway is about to set out to harvest some rock weed, a brown seaweed growing on rocks which is used as an organic fertilizer as well as in food supplements and in some industrial products. Rock weed is not to be confused with dulse. The little yellow and red boat on the right is what I spent my Friday morning on. More on that later. I finished reading Vernon God Little. It was a strange book and I am not sure if I would recommend it to anybody. I think what bothered me the most about it is the heavy stereotyping of the characters which made them seem overwrought and artificial. On the other hand, the subject matter (a school shooting, ensuing media frenzy and the shallowness of small town America [anywhere, really]) is important and the book does provide plenty of food for thought. | |
