Captain (right) and chief engineer are overseeing loading of the monitoring equipment. Tug boats, aside from their regular towing jobs, also provide services to engineering companies building various marine projects such as the proposed (and controversial) LNG terminal in Saint John. Collecting data on tides, ocean currents and waves is essential preparatory work before the actual planning and development of a site can begin. Tug boats, because of their fantastic maneuverability and lifting capacity, are ideal vessels for exact placement of various measuring devices. The various probes are periodically retrieved to collect the recorded data. They are than redeployed as close to the original spot as possible to ensure the quality and accuracy of the data collected. Atlantic Spruce crew did an amazing job given somewhat choppy seas and moderate winds.
