At Reggie's

It’s not uncommon for people to walk into Reggie’s only to use the payphone or washroom. This lady walked in before any customers showed up and released a torrent of angry French into the receiver. Way to fast for me to pick out anything meaningful.

A note on these images: They are all shot with LC1 at 400 ISO equivalent in RAW mode. Some of them were deliberately underexposed to get the equivalent of 800 ISO which, in the back of the restaurant, I needed even at f2. I use an excellent and user friendly RAW converter from Pixmantec. I am pleased with the results especially given the final application, but more about that later.

Eastern European links continued: Rita Ostrovskaya is a Ukrainian artist and photographer. I have her book Jews in the Ukraine. Her gentle, simple portraits are quite powerful in their own way. In fact, I would very much like to be able to create a similar look for a project I am about to start working on. Also, visit Interfoto, Russian press photographers awards. The English side of the site is not very helpful so stay on the Russian site. On the right side of the picture are different categories, like Arts and Entertainment, Sport, News, etc. and at the bottom of the picture you will occasionally see the Russian word for NEXT and >> indicating there is more pictures in the series – just click on it.
