Here is an interesting story on recent uproar over the images of dead American citizens in Iraq. Somebody once told me that my fascination with photojournalism is ridiculous. It probably is. Anyways, here is a project I started working on almost a year ago.

It all started with one of those genuinely well-intentioned and well-meaning remarks. I was told that South End, that tip of the peninsula protruding into the Saint John harbour is not a good place to raise a child. It is a neighbourhood with a reputation. Dangerous, really. Just a few blocks north and I would, I assume, be safe.

I am barely a Southender. That magic line that separates South End from the rest of the city, runs along the Duke Street. Those living on the north side of Duke are really Central Saint Johners. We on the other side - well, we are a whole different breed.

Take Raymond, for example. I run into him along Saint James street on a fair July afternoon. He was standing in the middle of the street trying to catch a pigeon with a bag of chips as bait.
