 This is the thing about South End. While homes on Germain Street can sell for half a million dollars, around the corner (literary) you can find urban decay to rival the worst Canada has to offer. This used to be a wonderful convenience store operated by an immigrant couple. The store is now closed and missed by many in the community. On a lighter note: I have created a monster today – I thought my daughter how to play The Game of Life. She is too little for the money part, but we do have fun spinning the wheel, choosing houses and careers, getting married and having kids and picking up little LIFE cards along the way. Now she wants to play it over and over again. The crass consumerism and conformism this game promotes is sickening. So we are changing some rules :-P Zadar IS a beautiful city and some people would do anything to live there and to be able to call their mom and brag about it. It’s actually somehow a really sad story. A German security guard who made off with a substantial sum destined for a bank was eventually caught following a 10-day manhunt by Interpol agents -- after calling home to his mom from a Croatian beach resort. | |
